The Shawnee County Commission Monday will consider approving permits enabling 22 fireworks stands to operate from June 27 to July 5 in unincorporated parts of the county.
Consideration of the applications is among items on the agenda when Commissioners Shelly Buhler, Bob Archer and Kevin Cook meet at 9 a.m. Monday in their chambers in Room B-11 of the county courthouse, 200 S.E. 7th.
The Topeka City Council won’t meet this coming week because it only meets on each month’s first three Tuesdays, and this coming Tuesday is the month’s fourth.
The Shawnee County engineer, zoning administrator and sheriff have recommended commissioners approve all 22 applications the county received this year from people seeking permits to operate fireworks stands. The application fee is $500 per stand. The commission received and approved 25 such applications last year.
A document that is part of the agenda packet for Monday’s meeting indicated 14 of the fireworks operations would sell from tents while eight would be located in buildings.
