If a city wants to be in the convention business, the one to host is the one in Lake Havasu City this weekend. It’s literally a blast.
The fireworks have already begun at the Western Pyrotechnics Association’s 27th Winter Blast, attracting hundreds of fireworks professionals and hobbyists that show off their work in a way that sets thousands of eyes looking skyward.
This convention isn’t about nametags and stale hotel air. The well-established setting is SARA Park on the southern part of the city. It’s hard to miss, not only because of the nightly fireworks shows but because of the impromptu city of campers set up along State Route 95 and the traffic warnings that come into play each year.
